Here, display of ASCII characters (0x20~0x7F) is set. As of other characters, they are specified by “terminal” tab.

Caret is cursor for character entry. Traditionally, it was only blinking quadrangle, but in Poderosa, caret by graphics with beautiful animation is supported.

Character Transition

Transition is setting which decide what kind of graphic effect is used when characters are displayed or disappear. Fade in and out is an effect which gives change of brightness, zooming in and out is an effect which changes size of characters.
What kind of effect is adequate, it differs by performance of computer and by each user’s preference, so please first try some settings and select you like. As for adding new effects, if you have any idea, please inquire using feedback tool.

Background Image

Background image of terminal can be set. Some images incorporated in Poderosa plus images such ads arbitrary png, jpg can be specified. For instance, if different background images between staging server and production server is set in advance, it will contribute to avoid serious trouble caused by misrecognition of connection destination.

Tranparency of Background

If background image bothers display of character, it is putting the cart before the horse, so please set proper visibility. If original image is a little brighter, 20 % of visibility is adequate. If image is dark, from 50% to 100% is acceptable.

Of settings related to terminal, one in common in all connection is included. As for one whose setting can differ by each connection, please refer to terminal setting of each connection.

At the time of switching this, specifies if effect on screen is added.

Saves Session Constitution on Finish

When Poderosa is finished, specifies if connection destination information and tab constitution is saved and restored in the next start. Off course, at the time of restart, pass phrase input of SSH key can’t be saved, connection itself can’t be restored. Only restores to tab constitution.
If you use the same connection destination every day, please check, if you use different connection destination each day, it is recommended not to check.

The Amount of Scroll Lines by Mouse Wheel

In order to see those are hidden in upper side of screen, specifies amount of scroll.
In App mode, mouse wheel send data to server judging that it is same as upper and lower cursor keys, it also specifies how many cursor keys.

For instance, if starting of a new line is conducted on the bottom line of screen in shell, whole screen scrolls by one line. Specifies needed time in this effect.

As for character string of connection destination, it is connected after IP address is resolved in DNS, priority degree setting of IPv4/v6 is conducted.

At the time of connection, if it’s via SOCKS, it is specified. SOCK’s version is limited to be only 5.
Plus, it’s impossible to switch yes or no of using SOCKS, only setting common to all.

Setting and tool related to SSH.

Time of Keep Alive

It’s specified how much time passes before sending keep alive. Because standard is passed time from final input, if input is continuous, keep alive isn’t executed. And if 0 is specified, keep alive won’t be sent.

Display Message Related to Known Host

Existence of message display related to check of server’s public key is specified. It’s rare that it’s required to seriously check server’s public key, but in SSH protocol specification, confirmation if hash of public key is the same as one separately obtained should be conducted by user himself or herself. If malicious third party camouflages server, this hush is different from intended one.

Generating New Key Pair

A new SSH key can be made by GUI. It’s the same function as ssh-keygen command of OpenSSH.

Connection History

The Number of Holding Connection Destination History

Specifies the number of connection destination history held inside. Poderosa extracts pull-down candidate of connection destination or account name from one existing in history.
If it’s too big, size of setting file becomes big, or security risk in case in which the setting file is leaked to outside becomes high. If it’s too small, there is trouble because input is necessary even if it is connection destination previously used.

The Number of Connection Destination Shown in Start Menu

In Start menu, one used more recently of connection destination history is selected and shown. Here, the number to be shown is specified. Please select adequate number which suites usual using condition or screen size used.
